Famous James Bond film director Roger Spottiswoode would cast Tamil actor Siddharth in his next. Spottiswoode was impressed with Siddharth’s performance in the 2006 Bollywood superhit Rang De Basanti.
“One of my friends recommended Rang De Basanti and Siddharth was brilliant in that. He came to England and loved the script,” Spottiswoode said.
Siddharth in the film will play the genius mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujam. The Ramanujam film titled The First Class Man will not be a biopic though and will only deal with his friendship with English mathematician GH Hardy. “Hardy thought that Ramanujan could be brilliant and as it turned out the young Indian was more talented than him. They collaborated for four years and wrote wonderful papers. It was a wonderful friendship between the two because Ramanujan was deeply spiritual, while Hardy was only interested in cricket and mathematics,” said Spottiswoode.
The film will be based on a script written by an American writer, and had won a prize at the Tribeca film festival for best script about science. The filmmaker revealed that he is currently putting the finance together, and is likely to begin the shoot for the film next year.
